Creativity and artistry are synonymous to his name. Evolving from a boy with superb penmanship to a guy with a keen eye for photography, he is a friend whom you can trust your secrets with. A friend who would lift you up when you are down. A person who would support all your decisions. A person who would not hesitate to correct your wrongs. How are you today? How have you been? What all have you seen? Have you seen us? Who have you visited and where have you been? Have you visited the house in Bulacan? Have you visited some old friends? How are we doing? I think we’re alright. Sometimes we sit and reminisce. We talk about you and what you did. What you would say and what we miss. Yes, we feel so incomplete. We can’t hold up without our pillar of strength. Sometimes we would just stand there, and sometimes, we just laugh thinking about the crazy things you’ve done. The epic you made our past.
Me? How am I doing? I think I’m doing fine. I think I’ve gotten better. Not so sick, I’m sure you’d find. I’m still too small. I’m still too big. I just wanted to let you know what life’s been like on this walk. It’s been two weeks, we needed to catch up. It feels like forever since we talked. I know you want us to be happy and not to cry. I know you want us to smile and seize the day. But not right now. I’ll do it tomorrow. I miss you today, and we miss you so much. We miss everything about you.
Papa is someone who holds you when you cry, scolds you when you break the rules, shines with pride when you succeed, and has faith in you even when you fail.
Peacefully sleeping, resting at last, his weary trials and troubles past. In silence he suffered, in patience he bore, Till God called him home to suffer no more.
Papa passed away on February 27, 2012. He was 56 and he lived a good life. I wish it could have lasted longer but I am very grateful for the time we spent together. I never thought of it this way before, but I knew him my whole life. We have always tried to see the positive side of things. We knew his illness was terminal though.
For me, this experience presented an urgency to spending time with my father that most people don't know exists. It's like the knocking sound that you hear just ten seconds before the end of a round that lets a boxer know he has just precious moments to get in one more big punch. We were ready for my dad to start feeling better again that it still seems as he died suddenly.
We had at least few more months with Papa. At least.

December 16, 2011 The UP Lantern Parade is a parade of large lantern-floats around the oval of the main campus of the University of the Philippines Diliman Campus. The first parade was held in 1922 but it was institutionalized as a university celebration in 1934 by then UP President Jorge Bocobo. This annual UP tradition and competition takes place on the late afternoon of the last day of classes before the Christmas break, just a few hours after the Oblation Run. A much-awaited annual event, the UP Lantern Parade has come to symbolize how UP constituents, residents, alumni, and friends gather together to present the best they have to offer while celebrating the holidays as one community.
